Long owned by a family of merchants, it was classified in 1959 as a "Cru Classé de Graves". The estate now belongs to INRAE, which saved it from disappearing in 1968.
The Château benefits from the most advanced research in terms of sustainable viticulture, and as such, has become a reference in the field of environmental protection.Today, it is the technological showcase of agronomic research adapted by INRAE and is also a production site of a Grand Cru Classé certified in BIO since 2022, with low environmental impact.
In 2015, the winery was awarded the Best Of Wine Tourism d'Or for the wine tourism enhancement of environmental practices.
Since then, Château Couhins welcomes the general public for tours of the property and tastings in a quiet and peaceful environment, at the gateway to the city.
