Located on the remains of an old fortified camp built by Charlemagne in 769, the Castle of La Rivière dominates the Dordogne valley and offers a great view on its river and its 65 hectares of vineyard.
In the XVI century, Gaston De l’Isle, the mayor of Bordeaux – but also Lord of La Rivière – takes over the lands and starts the construction of the central main building of the castle. Redesigned by Duthoit – assistant of the famous architect Viollet Le Duc, during the XIX century – the property will pass from one noble family to another which will make the History of the Castle.
Producing two red wines in the Fronsac appellation, a white wine and a rosé wine in the Bordeaux appellation, Le Château de La Rivière is nowaday the widest domain of the Fronsac appellation. Our team is glad to introduce you our winemaking professions and the illustrious history of the castle. The guide will then take you to part of our 8 hectares of underground cellars where you will discover some 700,000 bottles in perfect aging condition as well as unusual reception areas. The tour ends with a guided tasting of 3 wines.
The chapel, the Arms room, the lady's bath, the educational room of the Living, the gardens, the courtyard are free access to extend the pleasure before or after the guided tour.
